In 2024, driven by a passion for people and a vision to make a meaningful impact in the workplace, experienced business leader Laura Dooley founded Open Door HR. After years of working with private organizations in human operations, she saw the opportunity to create a solution that would bring expert HR support to companies needing flexible, fractional services.
Rooted in long-standing partnerships, professional trust, and a reputation for excellence, Open Door HR was built to support businesses and their employees with tailored, people-first strategies. Laura envisioned a company that balanced entrepreneurial freedom with purpose-driven work—and that's exactly what Open Door HR delivers.
Laura soon welcomed Tracey Johnson to the team—a trusted former colleague from a previous HR department. Together, they’ve taken their strong professional relationship to new heights, collaborating to offer responsive, reliable HR expertise to a growing client base.

Meet Tracey Johnson
Tracey brings a wealth of experience in office administration and human resources support, with a career marked by reliability, adaptability, and a strong dedication to helping teams thrive. Over the years, she’s lived in California and South Carolina, and now proudly calls Ann Arbor, Michigan home.
Tracey is married and a proud mom to two teenage sons. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family (including two cheerful parakeets), exploring the outdoors, and diving into all that her new community in Michigan has to offer. Whether she’s discovering a new tourist attraction, attending a local event, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment in nature, Tracey brings warmth, curiosity, and a steady spirit to everything she does.
Meet Laura Dooley
A proud Maryland native turned Southeastern local, Laura has spent the past two decades embracing coastal life across North and South Carolina. For the last 13 years, she’s called Charleston, SC home—where she thrives in the vibrant community and all the Holy City has to offer.
Laura holds an MBA from The Citadel (Class of 2016) and a BS in Business Administration from UNC Wilmington. With over 22 years of experience in privately owned companies, she’s held a variety of professional roles. Before founding Open Door HR, Laura served as Director at her last three employers focusing on legal and HR matters.
Beyond the office, Laura is engaged in her local community, church, and professional networks. She enjoys live music and theater, mornings at the gym, volunteering, and sampling Charleston’s ever-evolving food scene. When she’s not working or traveling, you’ll likely find her soaking up the sun—gardening, biking, hanging at the beach, or exploring one of Lowcountry’s beautiful parks.
